"Nkenge Browner’s Dick and Donuts demands respect, placing Black femme-identified lesbians in a position of power. It’s realistic, cathartic, and will have you squealing “yasss” every page. Its structure flows like a tidal wave: strong, steady, and surging with emotion. You move from narrative to poetry with the turn of a page, taking you on a bittersweet journey within stud/femme relationship dynamics. The stories are of Browner’s past experiences in relationships, while the poetry dives into her emotional healing process. Every moment is relatable. You don’t have to be Black or queer-identified to indulge in this collection. Love, relationships, joy, and pain are shared experiences— ones we can all relate to."
The Watergirl Drinks Before the Queen
A memoir written in prose. A collection of essays and freeform poetry capturing the relationships that affected the author's life journey. From her childhood lessons learned in the kitchen under the guidance of black femme elders. The experience of college while poverty stricken. The heights and lows of maintaining and losing friendships with other black femmes. The author discusses healing from generational drug use, coming out, dating and surviving a divorce. This book helps black women feel less alone in the world.

With a title that has the word dick in, you’re bound to scare some folx away. Even more so, with a subtitle that says a group of people ain’t shit, you can imagine how many feelings are hurt. But if you’re brave or even curious, this bright blue book with eggplants and donuts on the cover will capture your attention. And believe me, once you start reading, you won’t stop.
